I am writing as a constituent to express my serious concern at the widespread human rights violations against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, and beyond. 
Israel's military assault on Gaza in May killed more than 240 Palestinians, including 55 children. More than 1,450 housing units were destroyed, and dozens of schools, hospitals and clinics damaged.
While the recently-announced ceasefire brings a welcome end to Israel's military assault on Gaza, is is just an essential first step in ending the suffering for Palestinians. At the end of the hostilities, the UN estimated that 91,000 people remain displaced from their homes, with most sheltering in schools during a global pandemic and with limited access to water, food, hygiene and health services. 
Fikr Shalltoot, Director of Programmes in Gaza for Medical Aid for Palestinians, said: “It is difficult describe what the two million people in Gaza have witnessed over the last few days ... Many people can hardly believe that they survived this latest attack.”
History has repeated itself in Gaza. As in 2014 and previous military assaults, Israel targeted homes and civilian objects, causing loss of life, injury, and untold terror. 
Gaza’s health sector was already pushed to its limit amid an ongoing COVID-19 surge driven by Israel’s refusal to meet its legal duty as an occupying power to ensure access to vaccines for Palestinians. Damage and destruction 22 hospitals and clinics, the influx of fresh injuries, and severe resource shortages threaten to push Gaza’s hospitals to collapse. 
Meanwhile, protesters in the West Bank have been met with excessive force, with at least seven killed and hundreds injured. In occupied East Jerusalem, the Israeli government is backing the forcible expulsion of Palestinians from their homes to make way for settlers. Within Israel, discrimination and violence against Palestinian citizens is a root cause of anger and frustration. 
Urgent action is needed to end the widespread and systematic human rights abuses and discriminatory policies against Palestinians that lie at the root cause of recent hostilities.  
The international community must take immediate steps to end the blockade; attempts to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homes in occupied East Jerusalem; the continued expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank; and excessive use of force against Palestinians exercising their rights to freedom of expression and assembly wherever they live. Attacks on healthcare facilities and personnel in Gaza and the West Bank must be genuinely investigated, and those responsible for wrongdoing held accountable.
1) Write urgently to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, calling on him to: 
- Use the UK’s diplomatic leverage to pursue the immediate opening of all crossings into Gaza to facilitate humanitarian response, as part of a comprehensive lifting of Israel’s 14-year blockade and closure
- Rescind his recent comments undermining the International Criminal Court’s investigation into the situation in Palestine, and express the UK’s full support for the Court and its independence in this matter
- Support calls for accountability at the upcoming special session of the UN Human Rights Council
- Provide immediate assistance to the Palestinian health sector, enabling it to meet current needs and for sustainable development.

3) Make a public statement supporting genuine legal accountability for all violations of international law in the oPt.
